St. Andrew’s began a competitive lacrosse program in 1989 under the guidance of current U14 lacrosse Head Coach Fraser Cowell. The early years saw the team made up predominantly of athletes from other fall and winter sports who developed an interest in learning the game of lacrosse and competing within both the Conference of Independent Schools Athletic Association (CISAA) and the York Region Athletic Association (YRAA). Over the years the team began to attract students who had previous lacrosse experience and the team’s skill and competitiveness improved steadily.
By the 2005-06 season, the 1st lacrosse team was made up of a number of experienced players who were able to win the school’s first CISAA lacrosse championship. Three more successive CISAA Championships followed along with winning the inaugural OFSAA Championship in 2007. Over the last several years the 1st lacrosse team has also won numerous tournament championships including the annual SAC tournament that includes several of the top teams in the province each year.
The team plays 25+ games each season and travels to the U.S. for additional competition and NCAA scouting exposure. The following is a list of former 1st team players who have gone on to play lacrosse in university:
