We invite applications for a full-time opportunity in the role of School Counsellor, based in the Health Centre at St. Andrew’s College.
The School Counsellor will play an integral role in supporting the well-being of students by providing accessible, student-centred counselling services. Working collaboratively with the Health Centre team, faculty, and boarding staff, the successful candidate will support students in navigating a range of social-emotional challenges, including stress, anxiety, homesickness, relationship dynamics, and overall mental health concerns.
The School Counsellor will provide individual counselling and, where appropriate, small group support, grounded in a trauma-informed approach. The role includes developing and implementing proactive strategies to promote mental health literacy and resilience across the school community. The successful candidate will contribute to a culture of care by fostering a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all students.
Given the boarding environment, the School Counsellor will work closely with boarding staff to support students living away from home, ensuring continuity of care and timely response to emerging needs. The role may include consultation with the Circle of Care team, parents/guardians, external providers, and school leadership, while maintaining appropriate confidentiality and professional standards.
The School Counsellor will also play a key role in risk assessment and crisis intervention, including supporting students experiencing acute distress. This includes applying best practices in suicide risk assessment and prevention, and contributing to the development and implementation of school protocols for student safety and well-being.
