The aim of the Advisory program at St. Andrew’s is to strengthen and support young Andreans and allow them to more fully realize their potential to become “the complete man, the well-rounded citizen."

In the Middle School, advisors and their advisees meet on a daily basis; the advisor is the main contact person for the student and his parents or guardians. From Grades 5 to 8, a boy changes his advisor every year in order to facilitate the greatest number of connections and contact time in the “team concept” of the Middle School. The advisor is the primary contact for home-to-school communication relating to academic achievement.

The daily morning meeting serves as a time for the advisor to be engaged in an activity with their advisees, whether it is in the activity period, Assembly, or in Memorial Chapel. The afternoon meeting allows for a reflection on the day’s academic program and an opportunity to set a plan for evening study and to organize upcoming events in the week.

We celebrate our Friday morning advisory activity period as it allows students an opportunity to engage in a variety of activities led by both the advisor and the Grade 11 house captains. The Grade 11 house captains act as senior role models and participate in the life of Middle School students.

The promotion and education of essential topics are delivered through the advisory activity period; topics include bullying, environmental awareness, sportsmanship and healthy competition, teamwork, transitioning to Upper School, and celebrating Middle School achievements.

It is not uncommon to find our students competing for first-place in the paper airplane toss, participating in an anti-bully assembly led by the Toronto Argonauts, or engaged in a game of dodgeball.
