Endowment Fund

Independent schools are defined as such because they do not receive any public or government support, and are financed by alumni and current and past parents.

Great schools have great endowment funds which can help support funding initiatives, financial assistance for qualified students, academic excellence through funding for “chairs” in various disciplines, and permanent endowments for prizes, awards, and other areas of interest to our donors.

Each year the School offers significant financial aid opportunities to our students through endowed scholarships and bursaries. This number, which continues to grow each year, is backed by our strong endowment fund.

Following successful completion of a building campaign in 1991, the Advancement Office led an endowment growth program throughout the 1990's based on the establishment of Andrean Family Funds. Partly as a result of that initiative, and partly due to generous bequests from alumni and friends, the Foundation endowment has grown from $2.5 million (in 1991) to over $40 million. While this shows impressive growth, we encourage continued support for endowed funds so that St. Andrew's College may continue to provide outstanding financial support for deserving students now and in the future.

Many Old Boys contribute to memorial funds for wonderful teachers or beloved classmates including faculty members Aubrey Foy and Ron Kinney and stalwarts of the past like Dick Gibb, Stan Macfarlane, Barney Tudball, and former Alumni Director Jim Hamilton. Parents and past parents have also been instrumental in creating Family Funds, which grow over time to create support for their particular interests at St. Andrew’s.
