What is Athletic Therapy?

A Certified Athletic Therapist is a healthcare professional who specializes in the prevention, immediate care, and recovery from injuries. Athletic therapy (AT) involves the assessment and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal injuries, biomechanical dysfunctions, and concussions.

On the field, athletic therapists are the first to respond when an injury occurs, are experts at evaluating the nature of an injury, and are skilled in making safe return to play decisions.

Clinically, athletic therapists assist in restoring function, ensuring a safe return to pre-injury lifestyle, and preventing re-injury in the future. AT is an active, contemporary approach to rehabilitation, which includes patient education, manual therapy, therapeutic modalities, and targeted exercise to ensure musculoskeletal stability and function.
